IAWJ-UC Rolls Out Gender Responsive Adjudication Training

The International Association of Women Judges – Uganda Chapter (IAWJ-UC) has commenced the national rollout of Gender Responsive Adjudication (GRA) training following the successful Training of Trainers workshop held in Entebbe last week.

The first cohort comprises 42 Chief Magistrates drawn from different courts across Uganda.

The two-day training was officially opened by Lady Justice Olive Kazaarwe Mukwaya, President of IAWJ-UC, at Imperial Heights Hotel, Entebbe.

The training is supported by UN Women, the Austrian Development Cooperation, and the Gender Justice Platform under the theme: “Strengthening Judicial Capacity to Advance Gender Responsive Adjudication in Uganda.”

Lady Justice Olive Kazaarwe Mukwaya called upon participants to embrace gender-responsive adjudication and address personal biases that may affect justice delivery.

UN Women Representative Ms Mulindwa Beatrice reaffirmed the importance of gender-responsive justice in promoting fairness, equality, and access to justice for all.

The Training Approach included: Presentations, discussions, case studies, and practical exercises.

The Expected Outcome: is strengthened capacity of judicial officers to apply gender-responsive principles in their daily work.

The Key Takeaway: is that Justice must not only be done, but must be delivered in a manner that is fair, inclusive, and responsive to the realities of all court users.
