Chief Justice Unveils Foundation Stone for Mitooma Justice Centres

Mitooma. The Chief Justice, Hon. Justice Bart M. Katureebe on April 3, 2017 presided over the ground breaking ceremony for the Mitooma Justice Centre which when completed will serve as a one stop Centre for all justice law and order services. The facility will house a court, office of the DPP and the Police.The centre is billed at Shs 1bn and is expected to be completed by December 2017.

As part of the activities to start off the project, the Chief Justice, Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Gen. Kahinda Otafiire and Deputy Director of the Office of Public Prosecutions Charles,Director Elem Ogwa, planted trees saying trees represent life and they want to breathe justice across the country.

While laying the foundation stone, Hon. Justice Katureebe said he hopes the people who use the facility will find restitution.

He urged the people to make full use of the services that will be offered at the Justice Centres. "...take a keen interest in the work of the institutions present and do not fear to demand for services or to engage with our offices either directly or through District Chain-Linked committees."

He called upon the public to support all efforts to fight corruption by note engaging or encouraging staff to engage in malpractices.

Hon. Otafiire urged the public to make good use of the premises and the services that offered to ensure timely and quality justice.

He said, "these Justice Centres are a demonstration of the commitment of the government to ensure justice for all and to providing quality services that are accessible to those that need them."

The function was attended by district officials, representatives of different Justice Law and Order institutions.

About Justice Centres

The Justice Centres concept was adopted by the sector to facilitate access to justice especially for the vulnerable and poor who cannot afford to travel long distances in search of services.

Mitooma Magistrates Court was a Grade II magistrates court until 2012 when it was elevated to a Grade One court. The court is one of the newly created Chief Magistrates Courts.
