Court of Appeal Holds Pre-session Meeting

November 22, 2019: The Court of Appeal held a pre-session meeting with stakeholders in the criminal justice system including representatives of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions and lawyers on state briefs on the planned month-long Criminal Appeals Session in Gulu starting on November 25, 2019.

The panel of Justices set to handle the Gulu session, Hon. Justice Kenneth Kakuru,Hon. Lady Justice Percy Tuhaise and Hon. Justice Remmy Kasule, chaired the pre-session meeting.  

According to the cause list signed by the Court of Appeal Registrar, HW Dr. Agnes Nkonge, of the 44 criminal appeals are to be handled; 23 seek to overturn murder convictions, 14 are appealing 14 defilement, three rape convictions. There is also an appeal against manslaughter conviction. 

The Gulu Criminal Appeals Session will officially be launched by the Hon. the Deputy Chief Justice, Hon. Alfonse Chigamoy Owiny Dollo.
