The Judiciary is holding a Health Awareness Camp at Soroti High Court Grounds under the theme; "Ending AIDS by 2030: Communities leading in HIV Prevention and Care."
A cross-section of Staff of the Judiciary, members of the HIV/AIDS Committee and key stakeholders have turned up to participate.
The day's activities began with a community outreach campaign to families infected/affected by HIV/AIDS, conducted by members of the Judiciary HIV/AIDS Committee.
The Head of Soroti High Court Circuit, Justice Dr Henry Peter Adonyo, encouraged the staff to utilise the medical teams available, pay keen attention to the guidance and counselling offered, information and health services for health is wealth.
"One cannot buy healthy living by going to the shop but by practising simple health ways such as exercise, monitoring of diet, positive thinking as well as healthy living," he noted.
He further urged them to strive to live a happy and useful life at all.
HW Dorothy Sempala Lwanga, who represented the Chairperson HIV/AIDS Committee, briefed them about the objectives of the Health Camp and gave a brief history of how the Judiciary has mainstreamed HIV activities in line with the Presidential Fast-track Initiative on ending HIV&AIDS in Uganda by2030.
Mr Ikabet Francis, from the Uganda AIDS Commission highlighted the HIV/AIDS prevalence in Teso Region per district with Soroti City leading with12.5% above the National prevalence rate of 5.1%.
The above, he noted, has been contributed by factors such as discordance living, inconsistency in no condom use, drug abuse, poverty, high levels of stigma, sex work, among others.
He commended the Judiciary for spearheading the fight for HIV/AIDS at the work place and encouraged them to continue with the momentum of sensitizing stakeholders for both support staff and communities.
Among other services being offered at the Camp include sensitization on HIV/AIDS Policy, HIV Testing & Counseling, sharing of testimonies and experiences, Cancer screening, and Advocacy on Tuberculosis.
Notably in attendance is the Vice LC V Soroti District Local Government Mr Enangu Samuel, Deputy City Mayor MS Ipagi Juliet and Ms Nalubega Fatuma, Justice for Children.
The facilitators at the Camp are; Dr Stephen Watiti, Dr. Omagino O. OJohn, Ms Elizabeth Kasirye and Ms Eseeri Nadudu.
At the same event, the participants wished Justice Dr. Henry Peter Adonyo who makes 65 today.
Ms Sheila Wamboga, the Principal Communications Officer, is moderating at the Camp.
