Kitgum High Court Hosts Development Partners
Kitgum High Court on Tuesday hosted a team from the UNFPA, Austrian Development Cooperation together with other Development Partners.
This visit aimed at exploring the implementation and impact of the UNFPA/Austrian Development Cooperation (ADA) Phase II programme, specifically focusing on enhancing access to justice for survivors of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence(SGBV) in Kitgum district.
The delegation led by Ms Laura Criado, Programme Coordinator, Gender and Youth, UNFPA and Mr Beate Faroukoye, Deputy Head of Mission, Austria Development Cooperation in Uganda. They were received by the Kitgum High Court Resident Judge, Justice Philip. W. Mwaka, HW Suzanne Aisia Musooli, the Court’s Deputy Registrar and HW Odwori Ponsiano, Magistrate Grade I.
In attendance also were the RDC Kitgum, the district officials, the Resident State Attorney Kitgum and other stakeholders. Justice Mwaka, in his remarks gave an overview of the Kitgum High Court and relayed the court's commitment to enhancing access to justice for survivors of gender-based violence.
He informed the delegation that about 51% of the criminal cases at the Court are SGBV in nature. He also appreciated the support from the Austrian Agency in access to Justice.
