Chief Registrar Inspects Progress of Registry Digitization

The Chief Registrar of the Judiciary, HW Agnes Alum, this afternoon inspected the ongoing digitisation of records at the Chief Registrar’s Registry, a process aimed at improving the accessibility, management, preservation and security of registry records.

The digitisation exercise, being undertaken in the basement of the Court of Appeal Building, involves scanning and electronically storing registry records, including files relating to Advocates and Bailiffs.

The project is being implemented in phases, with the first phase targeted for completion by the end of October 2026. The exercise will ultimately establish a comprehensive digital system through which authorised users can easily search for, retrieve and access registry information.

During the inspection, the Chief Registrar was informed that all files relating to Advocates and Bailiffs had been scanned and electronically stored. The next stage will involve capturing relevant information from the files into the digital system.

Upon completion of the first phase, the system is expected to enhance records management and facilitate faster and more efficient retrieval of registry information, while ensuring the safe custody, preservation and security of the records.

The Chief Registrar’s Registry is responsible for maintaining and managing official records relating to Advocates and Bailiffs. It serves as the central repository for records concerning the enrolment and professional status of Advocates, as well as the registration and regulation of Bailiffs.

The Registry maintains this information to ensure that accurate and up-to-date records are available for reference, verification and other official purposes. Given the volume and importance of these records, their digitisation is expected to further strengthen their management, preservation and accessibility.

The inspection was also attended by HW Patricia Amoko, Private Legal Secretary to the Chief Registrar, and HW Kosia Kasibayo, Deputy Registrar attached to the Chief Registrar’s Chambers.
